Story and interview by Andrew Bess and Tonyela Arphul
On June 24th Tucson held the biggest carshow of the year at the Tucson Convention Center. With
decked out low riders, local hip hop performers, and several main events such as Hot Rod from G-Unit,
MC Magic, Dj Kane, and Baby Bash, this became a high profile event. Hundreds of people showed up
from 11a.m. until 6pm. There were two huge stages for the acts to perform on and football field of
glittering, candy coated, shining bikes and cars. But there was also one part of this huge show that
became an event too: the vendors. Everybody from Cuete Yeska to Alltell was selling their product to
the maximum. There were kids of all ages and yes tons and tons of security.
The Green Beat was given the opportunity to hang out backstage with the main acts and even catch
Baby Bash on the way to the stage for a quick interview. Check it out:
June 2007-Tucson Convention Center
The Green Beat-Your career is still on the rise how did you get started?
Baby Bash-I got started playing junior college basketball, shit about 7 or 8 years ago. Me and my boys were in
the studio and I was just clownin man. I was tryna go to the NBA. My homie was rappin and I started clownin
doing my own stuff next thing you know my music is out there. I still don't consider myself "Mr. Rapper of the
Year" or nothin. I'm more of a songwriter, you know?
The Green Beat-You've worked with Akon before, whats your take on all the events happening to Akon
as of late?
Baby Bash-I don't know maybe he caught up in the moment I mean, who knows but I don't really ask him about
none of that. I've heard about it, seen about it, but I never really asked questions about it. Me and him are
friends and you know he's a real down to earth dude.
How do you classify your music genre or style?
My music is super saucy! [laughs] Like a good ass lobster and you squeeze that lemon on it and you dip it in
the butter sauce? My music is that butter sauce. And I'm not this hardcore rapper but I'm not a corny soft fool
either. I'm the man in between, the fly kid!
Unfortunately we ran out of time because the crowd was waiting for Baby Bash to rock the show. And
that he did.
We also got up close and personal with the fans who were very supportive. Be sure to check and see if
your picture is posted!

Hello to all,
As many of you might know, I am the creator and the editor behind The Green Beat. To find out more about
our mission click on the Editor's Comment link at the bottom of every page.
Anyways, the reason I am writing this note is because I want to personally thank everyone who has been
involved with supporting The Green Beat; from my writers to the fans your love is much appreciated. I never
thought that a simple idea would escalate into something this big.
Since the website is becoming a reliable source for Arizona hip hop, more and more artists are starting to
realize that it takes a nation to create a revolution. If we can all just put our egos aside and support one
another, Arizona hip hop will be heard. For this reason, GB will be issuing a small print magazine by the end
of this Summer or early Fall. The website will be going through some major changes as the fanbase
continues to grow. We will be extending our network to the entire Southwest. This includes artists in
California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The website will still be Arizona based but we will show love to
anyone in between. We have already reached the East coast (New Jersey and New York) with our network.
Eventually the movement will be nationwide. The website is primarily an international network tool used to
give Arizona artists the opportunity to expose themselves. With an expanding network they will be able to
interact with many people and create opportunities for their career.
Now, of course there are definitely those people who will stand as an obstacle toward the movement, but we
cannot let them dilute this project. Many people will have their own opinions to what it is that we do, and I
respect them for that. But on a personal level, to every artist out there, people will have things to say about
you and your music. Whether it is good or bad you just keep on moving. With that being said I have been
able to overcome a lot of backlash from local artists and I feel that as long as the site is up and running no
one will be able to hold me back but myself. I have a strong and devoted staff who love what they do just as
much as I do, and that to me is success.
Thank you all again for the support and I look forward to doing business with many of you. For questions
